A Year In Adventures, 2013

Film was my first love. Although I live and work in a digital world my heart still yearns for it. It gives me satisfaction in the present moment and its an escape from the frenetic-hyper life I live in. I love the physicality of it, loading it, hearing the shutter. But mostly my love for film is an intangible one. It’s the special way that the world looks when captured on film. There is a quality to the light, the colors, the grain, the blur that varies from one film type to another. Where my digital cameras are a rational choice and decision, my film camera is an emotional one. And it will always be that way. Honest, fickle, and rewarding.

These photographs were taken on various trips last year. I feel so lucky that I get to travel. That I have a wonderful family to travel with. What else can one ask for. Hope you enjoy!

Another beautiful, heartfelt wedding here. I love the Marin art and garden center. It's spacious, filled with flowers and you can get lost in all the little pocket gardens. Basically, the backdrop is already there. Add some great food, family & friends, well, you've got yourself a damn good celebration.

Dorian + Jared } Mission Bowl, San Francisco

I can honestly say I have photographed weddings in pretty much every type of venue under the sun; rustic barn, gothic cathedral, french chateau, hillside in Sicily, beaches of Mexico, a campsite under the redwoods... the list goes on & on.  However, only until just recently, can I add *bowling alley* to that list. Yep. Certainly not just any bowling alley mind you. This one is extra special. In the heart of hipster-ville-mission is a 6 lane bowl that serves up some of the tastiest cocktails and food around. Jared and Dorian knew exactly what they were doing. They planned one of the funnest weddings I've been to in awhile. They danced, they bowled, they exchanged vows, they cocktail-partied all night long. In short, it was an absolute blast. You guys are the best.

This wedding was held at the Vine Hill house, which honestly, I don't think I could invent a better place for a wedding. It's like getting married at your childhood home. Jesse + Kaite } Culinary Institure of America, St. Helena

I just completed this wedding in St. Helena at the Culinary Institute.  Nutshell: It was *Fantastical*.  And I certainly don't use this word often. I picture it like this....Hogwarts Castle in the heart of wine country where almost like witchcraft, the students are whipping up spells in the kitchen. The food is really quite incredible. The bride & groom went with an art deco theme; the table decor all the way down to her beautiful dress. Oh that dress! I loved this wedding.

Oh boy, where to begin...
I guess I'll start off by saying that Jennifer & Aiden are two of the sweetest people I've worked with all year. They were both genuinely concerned that I was fed and happy on their own wedding day. Um, yea...this speaks volumes in my book. Just generous, considerate and super fun people. And then lets just throw in the fact that the Valley Ford Hotel is seriously my new favorite place to get married. Its all right there for you. You know that "rustic charm" everyone is trying way too hard to emulate...well, its the real thing folks. yep. done and done. Then you add again to this list; great, no...*phenomenal* food, creative drinks, super-sweet-attentive staff and.... Ka-booom! Incredible.

These two fabulous people couldn't be sweeter on each other.  I really enjoyed working with them and I couldn't be happier that they chose to have their wedding at Barndiva!  The venue is incredible enough just as it stands.  Then add a great staff, phenomenal food, a kick-ass DJ and a magnificently supportive family and network of friends standing behind both bride & groom.

Way up in the hills of Napa sits a former cattle ranch marked by ancient oaks and rock-hewn streams. Durham Ranch is now surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and white fencing, these grounds are where two beautiful people, Mel & Steve, joined hands in marriage. Anna + Jeffrey } Treasure Island, California

Who knew there was a winery on Treasure Island? What a great place for a celebration. Anna and Jeffrey were married by their good friend on a warm sunny day. They also had karaoke at the reception. Another *first* for me. It was so much fun I'm now totally obsessed with the idea and think everyone should have karaoke at their wedding. Tons of fun! You guys are awesome.

Maybe I should start by saying this magical day in June took place in the backyard of family friend. Yet the word "backyard" just doesn't seem quite adequate. Lets go with "Valley".

Maybe I should say that Mia and Joe are truly some of the sweetest clients I've worked with. And Mia, well, she was absolutely stunning in a wedding dress that was made by her cousin. Wait... lets replace "made" with the word "created" and the word "cousin" with "amazing designer".

I've now had the privilege to work with all but one sibling in the Brunsvold family and it's truly been amazing. I have to say, it will be a sad day after their brother weds, I'll have to start making up excuses to hang out with them. Ha!
All told, it was a perfect day for Laura & Ben which included astounding (and I mean that in every sense of the word) food, friends, some with serious music talent, and an awesome blend of east coast and west families celebrating and just having a blast. Exactly how a wedding should be. :)

Jessie & Dave } San Francisco

I had a blast shooting this wedding. Jessie & Dave had some of their close friends & family gather at City Hall for a short & sweet ceremony and then we quickly drove out to the coast to finish off the photos. For the first time I was hiking Sutro Baths (and with my camera)! For Jessie and Dave, having spent a lot of time in that area, it was the ideal place for them. Thanks for the suggestions, guys! One of the many perks of shooting weddings is that I often meet really unique people.  I travel to destinations and dream later that I'm living there; on a boat, in a cabana, under a thatched roof, or even in a 32 foot-high-tree-house perched above the amazon. You know the type.... the type that wants to create a wedding experience for their families and friends; a vacation that lends itself to  relaxation, culture, adventure, quality-time, wave dives, bird calls, binoculars, fresh coconuts, cenotes, fantastic food, lightning and maybe even thunder (the real stuff)
